Our Projects
Soroptimist International of Rancho Bernardo’s projects are aimed at improving the lives of women and girls in our community and through-out the world. We are passionate about these projects and work hard to make them successful for everyone that is involved.

Transitional Housing: Transitional housing is provided for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence. SIRB and SI of Poway (SIP) have been working together on this project since 1996. This 18 month program moves families from dependency and abuse to a safe, self-sustaining lifestyle by providing furnished housing, financial help, and mentoring. Members of SIRB have an opportunity to mentor the individuals in the program. When the program is completed, the family takes everything in the apartment with them to help start their new life.

Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition (BSCC): The BSCC is a local nonprofit organization that administers a variety of services for victims of domestic and international trafficking and slavery. They work together with over 60 government and nonprofit agencies in the United States and Latin America.

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Retreat for Survivors: SIRB sponsors this weekend event for the Center of Community Solutions. This is a day to celebrate courage and healing. Survivors come together to share experiences, overcome the past trauma, and create bonds. They are treated to massages, aromatherapy, music, relaxation, and so much more.

In 2011, Center for Community Solutions awarded SIRB Volunteer Organization of the Year.

The Quaker Bolivia link: Provides fresh running water and agricultural project to the indigenous people of Bolivia. This enables the women and girls to attend school.

Amigos de los Californios: Provides medical, dental, and optometric health clinics and educational programs in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Togs for Tots: SIRB and North County Interfaith provide a clothing exchange for children, infant to size 6. Parents in need can get new or gently used clothing for their children. When the child outgrows the clothing they are brought back and exchanged for clothing in a larger size. SIRB donates clothing a minimum of once a month.

Several of our projects are annual financial awards provided to improve the lives of women and girls in our community.

SIRB Women’s Opportunity Award: This award assists women, who are typically head of household; obtain the skills and training necessary to improve their employment status.

Violet Richardson Award: Presented to young women ages 14-17 who are engaged in volunteer activities in their community.

Ruby Award: Honors women who are working to improve the lives of women and girls through their professional or volunteer work.
